Hey,Lorna here.I'm gonna blog about the Moral field trip Tingkatan 4A and 4B had on Monday,16.02.09.
Sorry to say that this is not going to be a picture post because I didn't bring my camera that day...=(
Here goes....
On Monday,Form 4A and 4B went on a field trip to the Sarawak Children Cancer Society and the Recycling Centre at Ong Tiang Sui road.We departed at approximately 10.50 a.m from school to our first destination, the SCCS centre. We spent several hours cleaning, taking pictures and just hanging out with each other there.Anyway,I met a guy there named Benny.Actually, alot of us met Benny.Benny is only 15 and is currently in Form 3.Unfortunately he has cancer but we don't know what type of cancer he has.Diandra and I took photos with Benny but we didn't dare to ask him such a sensitive question.Though he has cancer,he looks like he's living his life to the fullest because he kept smiling when we were there.I guess he was smiling because he saw so many of us coming to the centre to help clean and everything.Diandra was the first to say hi to him.He was really shy but he said hi back.In fact, alot of us said hi to him and he lept smiling...it felt really good that even a small greeting could make him smile. His smile was so beautiful.I live very near the SCCS but I've never been in there until that day.Cikgu Govin told us to be sensitive when we were there because he said most of the kids weren't exactly the happiest kids around but Benny seemed to smile the whole time we were there. He's only 15 and he's way taller than me.When we were all cleaning,Benny watched us clean as though he was watching a television show because when some of us were climbing the ladder to clean the fan,we felt insecure and made weird reactions because the ladder was shaky....Benny laughed at all us.LOLBut the one thing that really made me feel bad was the fact that many others, especially the guys went there to take fake pictures and didn't really help clean up the place. The woman had to clean one of the window ledge herself because she saw that it was still very dirty.Don't ya think it made a bad impression to them about us?Anyway,There was another kid who later came back from the hospital after his treatment...I said hi to him and he said hi back but he was feeling tired so he went to his room to get some rest.Later, when everyone had taken their pictures and were done with cleaning,we all sat in the living room to chat while others went outside to the playground to chat as well. The bus soon arrived and we headed to 3rd Mile for Mc Donalds as our lunch.Sadly we only had 30 minutes of lunchtime...After that,we headed to the Recycling Centre located at Ong Tiang Sui road where we recycled materials we brought and took pictures for our project. We only spent maybe about 40 minutes there? And yet those 40 minutes were fun.Especially when the guys were getting a little bit naughty...we got to see a lighter side of Cikgu Mikit during that 40 minutes at the centre.LOL.Hilarious.After that,we went back on the bus and headed back to school. On the bus we sang songs and went crazy because it was the only fieldtrip that we get to join classes this year i guess...I'm not sure about the upcoming field trips though....The moments in the bus felt as though none of us even changed classes.Though not all our 3B mates were there,we spent moments of joy in the bus just having fun doing crazy stuff.Stuff that we did in the bus on our field trip to sematan last year....yea,brought back the memories for a short while...its great to relive part of it again.
Anyway,I really enjoyed the field trip with all of you...I miss 3B-2008 so much.It seems that the environment in the classroom is so quiet now...Arts side only has 20 people yet it can be so loud with the guys at times and dead silent when we're having certain classes...well,mostly because half of the class is always asleep...LOL.
One more thing...going to the SCCS made a rather huge impact on me after I saw Benny.Normally you'd always see cancer patients on tv suffering in pain and you feel sympathy towards them but when I went to the SCCS,Benny,a 15 year old boy who has cancer smiled the whole time we were there. It really makes a difference because you know that he appreciates what he has and he stays positive. Its not an everyday thing that you see people with terminal diseases smiling when you see them now is it?I know we all watch movies that sometimes gives us motivation but looking at it in real life in front of you motivates even more.
Also, today (17.02.09) we had an assembly and a man named Mr. Chew went up on stage talking about helping a woman named Diana Chong who has a type of disease that does not permit her to fully use her whole body.Pardon me as I don't remember the name of the disease.Diana happens to be a very good artist.Though she is disabled, she doesn't act as an idle person not doing anything....she uses her artistic skills and draw paintings and Mr Chew and some others help her sell her paintings in form of a small scrapbook to help support her.Truly inspiring.
Later, after our Ekons test (during the last 2 periods) Cikgu Lily scolded Bryan for not listening in class and the fact that he has an I-Don't-Care attitude towards studying. He was scolded for not even trying to pay attention. Then,Cikgu Lily told us all about an ex-lodgian,Wong Leh Ding who is disabled but he gives his very best in everything. She told us stories about her experience with him and how teaching him was a special experience to her because of the fact that even though he is disabled,he tries his very best to listen and complete all his work without using his disease as an excuse for not completing any task.Cikgu compared Bryan to Wong Leh Ding....but later, not only Bryan was compared to him.We all were. There is always at some point that we give an I-Don't-Care attitude and walk away or even give an excuse to not persevere in what we do....After seeing, hearing stories and watching movies and so on about motivational stories,I feel more motivated to do more and do my best in life....though I know I will lose motivation once in a while I should keep these things in mind.We all have to try don't we?
Speaking of all this,Simple Plan's song save you was written for the lead singer's brother who has cancer...the song is motivational too...go youtube it...its an awesome song...the lyrics will most likely make you feel that you should do your part in your life.I'm sure you all are familiar with the slogan "You've got one life,DO SOMETHING!!" So make a difference today!!
